#ThankYou: The Eagle Academy Foundation

In a time in America when black boys are at risk for almost everything but success, there is a school and foundation dedicated to making success their only option. Meet, The Eagle Academy Foundation.

Location: New York, New York

Website: www.eagleacademyfoundation.com

Years in Operation: 2005- current

Mission of the Organization: The Eagle Academy Foundation develops and supports a network of all male, grades 6 through 12, college-preparatory schools in challenged, urban communities that educate and mentor young men into future leaders committed to excellence in character, scholastic achievement and community service, and to promote these principles nationally.

The Junior Board of the Foundation, supports the Eagle Academy Foundation through fundraising and strategic program development based on college readiness, core competencies and professional development goals that ultimately enhance the interpersonal and social achievement of all Eagle scholars in their academic endeavours and career pursuits.

Name one programatic highlight within the last year: At the invitation of Mayor Cory Booker, a fourth Eagle Academy will open a school in Newark, NJ in September 2012. It will be the innaugural 6th grade class and carry the Eagle Academy tradition in Newark.

Why was this organization started? In 2005, the Eagle Academy Foundation was established to expand into other areas that were in need of quality education for inner city young men, provide professional development for Eagle teachers, administrators and those working to change the educational outcomes of urban young men and provide the necessary financial support to sustain these initiatives.
