…..This is going to be a night to remember! I’m never more excited about a fundraiser than I am for the New York Cares Spring Gala: Soiree 2011!!!
When & Where: Thursday March 3rd at Crimson
Our fundraising goal: $100,000.
For what: To fund and support the planning and execution of New York Cares programming.
Tell me more Ebonie: Without New York Cares volunteers and programs NYC literally would not be the place it is. Seriously. With over 48, 000- yes 48,000 volunteers…..NY Cares cleans up entire neighborhoods, educates students outside of the classrooms, feeds and clothes the homeless, provides tax preparation…you name it, we do it. We change lives! And if I can have my hand in any of it, I’m SOOO on it!
Soooooo, what else: This year, one of our honorees includes life changer: Sonya Lockett. (Hi Grasshopper) Sonya rocks the socks off of BET’s pro-social initiatives by keeping HIV/AIDS prevention education alive in the African-American community. Not to mention she too is an avid New York Cares supporter! There’s a fence she painted in the Upper West Side she takes pride in to this day. She’s also won an Emmy for Rap It Up, the HIV/AIDS education initiative that she manages for BET. The program was named Outstanding National Public Service Campaign by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Now who do you know that’s won an Emmy?!
Last year we raised $90,000; the most money the Soriee had EVER raised! With my help, we honored one of my favorite people and another personal life changers: Kevin Liles. Kevin went out of his way to support me in my efforts and civic work. Most of all the opportunity to honor him was my way of saying ‘thank you’ for helping me throughout HS and college. (Hey Tiffany!!!)
Can I hit my Dougie at the Soiree?: Of course you can! Always supportive Friend, DJ MOS is returning for the second year to rock the night away! *Hits my Dougie*
What can I win?: There will be awesome silent auction items and mystery raffle items to bid on including Jet Blue tickets, Carol’s Daughter products, Lucky Strike Lanes, a yummy Oprah package, a two night stay at The Bowery Hotel, Sky Diving, Broadway show tickets….and the list goes on…..
Don’t worry there’s an open bar! Endless hors d’oeuvres. And a room full of some of the BEST NYers. I can’t wait! It’s really going to be a great party- I mean fundraiser!
Don’t forget to tell them you heard about the event from Jr. Committee Member: Ebonie Johnson Cooper. <—that’s me. 🙂
